Beat Prodigies presented by LFTF

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

LFTF was started in 2008 with the simple vision of having a communal place to rave about the music they love. Since then, nothing's changed. The online magazine/blog highlights wide array of contemporary urban influenced music ranging from Southern Rap to Neo Soul to UK-bass music.

Headlining the Pioneers of Rhythm showcase is Ann Arbor beat maestro Dabrye, who will be flexing his J Dilla-esc skills, seamlessly blending swing out hip hop with EDM sound design. Supporting the bill we have four rising producers, all blurring the lines between hip hop, soul and underground dance music, Samo Sound Boy, Katie Kate, Keyboard Kid and Kid Smpl.

Dabrye

Ghostly International
Dabrye (an alias of Ann Arbor’s Tadd Mullinix) is best known for creating head-nodding beats with saw-tooth bass lines and a keen eye to forward-thinking production. With support from both the hip-hop underground and the electronic music press, he has earned a place in URB’s Next 100 and XLR8R’s Top 100 albums, among other accolades. Dabrye’s trilogy began with One/Three in 2001, which was followed by the Instrmntl... Read More →

Katie Kate

Katie Kate (Katie Finn) is one among Seattle's badasses. She’s a spry, business-wise matron of the crew. With a slinky, flaunting syntax, Katie Kate’s cadent flow undulates. Switchbacks on the metronome drive a laid back hard count that bobs and weaves around her beats. It’s straight up, playful, and sparks off a parade of glitter and gemstone covered heat shields. Heat shields, as in able to both turn away, and contain much... Read More →

Keyboard Kid

Based World / Surefire Sound
As creative and sharp as Lil B's lyrical tongue can be, it's his ear that helps his music sound so compelling. The BasedGod's mere association with Clams Casino and BigBoyTraks has helped launch these upstart producers into the spotlight. So, when Keyboard Kid 206 turned the least cool '90s alt-rock song (Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris") into one of Lil B's most compelling tracks, "I Hate Myself," it was only a matter of time before this Seattle kid joined... Kid Simpl

Hush Hush / RBMA
Kid Smpl is the current alias of 22-year-old Seattle producer Joey Butler. A veteran of stage and studio, Butler has been busy developing a style of atmospheric bass music that continues to deepen with each release. His signature sound incorporates lush synths, meditative low-end, muffled vocals samples, and warm textural field recordings, punctuated by drums that straddle every end of the tempo spectrum. The sounds are spread across a canvas... Read More →

Samo Sound Boy

Body High
Samo Sound Boy is a Los Angeles based producer and DJ whose powerful live sets and original productions have brought him to the forefront of today's forward-minded club scene. Having earned his chops DJing at Fugees 99, a Nigerian-owned dancehall in the south end of Buenos Aires, Samo compounded influences picked up there with a love of crunk, club, and Chicago house. The result remains a uniquely rugged but soulful sound of his own. In... Read More →
