What sort of changes were made, and need to be made in the future for labels to stay viable? What kind of impact does the rise of “EDM” have on traditional & electronic music focused labels? Should anyone start a label today? In this panel, we dive deep in the issues surrounding labels and what can and is being done about them.

Tony Kiewel is the Head of A&R at Sub Pop Records, where he’s worked for over 12 years. Before making the move to Seattle, he worked in the radio promotions and new media departments at Geffen and DreamWorks Records. He’s been fortunate enough to work with such artists as The Postal Service, Hot Hot Heat, Flight of the Conchords, Shabazz Palaces and David Cross to name just a few.

Aaron Meola is the label head of Portland Oregon based Dropping Gems. Over the past several years Aaron has taken Dropping Gems to a level of international notice, employing DIY ethics and vibes.
